raw minimal techno specialist mono junk is back with a selection of new material on his own dum records. having pioneered key techno sounds as far back as 1990, more than 20 years later the influential finnish artist is still on top of his game. up first is halo, nine minutes of edgy techno with a nervy lead synth snaking around in paranoid fashion. rolling drums set a direct groove in motion below and the whole thing will be brilliantly hypnotic on the dance floor. halo 2 is a hallucinogenic bit of ambient with celestial drones and icy synth prickles making for a tense interlude, then musta peili is all fucked up and scuzzy, study and disrupted. sounding like a slowed-down techno track heard though a freezing snow blizzard, it is masterfully textured. farewell closes out the ep with an intergalactic bit of glassy melodic techno that will have you up on your toes.

in the summer of 2016 hove went to france for two weeks to start writing and recording his new ep portes du soleil. together with his girlfriend they spent two weeks at le pascalet, a house in the woods of the cevennes, right outside the small village of st. etienne vallee franc&#807,,,aise. equipped with a sampler, a drum-machine,some synths, effect pedals and a mic for feld- recordings, he built the foundation of the 4 songs that would later become the ep portes du soleil. all the songs started out as live-jams. the goal was to create different moods and patterns inspired by the surroundings of the forest, long walks, playing petanque and plenty of pastis. the tracks were later fnalized back home at hoves studio in zurich. musically portes du soleil feels like the natural follow up to his debut ep journey to arendal. hoves tracks are wavering between sozzled grooves and warm, woozy atmospheres. field- recordings from their daily routine in and around the house were either used to enrich the ambiance, or as in calme infni, they were transformed into a whole song. even though portes du soleil was written during the summer, the record is not bound to any season it is simply an excerpt of hoves life in 2016.

picking up where they left off three years ago, modern heads, the much-respected collaboration between gianluca meloni and dino sabatini, are back with a dynamic and intriguing four track ep. the duo go straight in here with the club-ready athena. throughout this track, tight percussive elements wind in and around one another, creating an ever-changing rhythm that you can only just hold onto. under this, tense synths pulse away, producing an opaque and insular atmosphere. next up, eumaeus lightens the mood somewhat, providing clarity with a distinct opening drum pattern. this mood doesnt last long though, as indiscernible, haunting vocals begin to echo in the distance, gradually moving closer and further in the mix as sharp pads swoosh either side. side b of the record opens with the deepest and longest track of the ep, eurycleia. simple yet unrelenting drums frame this hypnotic sci-fi episode, through which otherworldly screeches and rumbles reverberate over the twinkling sounds of machines. eurycleias atmosphere continues straight into the final track, laertes theme. this beatless piece takes eurycleias exploratory mood and extrapolates it over five and a half minutes, resulting in what feels like the perfect soundtrack to a glacial expedition in alien territory. as an ep this is a complete and coherent package, a perfect extension to modern heads previous work. the sound palette is familiar, yet refined, developed upon and taken further. the old beggar is undeniably worth the wait for anyone with a taste for the extraterrestrial.

new band name, new lp, the former max graef band toured and worked on new music all year. musical progress, and the impression of not enough edge and rawness in a lot of recent music, inspired and motivated a majority of the recording. the band has grown as a unit and wrote a lot of material together this year in late night sessions. during 2 weeks of recording the new songs in the studio the goal was to try all sorts of instruments, amps and effects and be open to any combination of sounds. furthermore, they and engineer lutz fahrenkrog-petersen tried to capture and maintain the raw feeling of the live recordings using almost exclusively analog pedals and racks as well as keeping the editing of the recordings to a minimum. although bands like et cetera (wolfgang dauner), embryo or xhol have heavily infuenced max graef and his band, the result turned out very original ranging from distorted jazz-rock to experimental soul, electronic percussion workouts to free sound experiments and psychedelic rock. with some tracks being around 14 minutes long, it is better to let the music speak for itself though.

new kid felix leifur made quiet a stir with his debut release on dirt crew last year. the icelandic juggernaut comes from the striving reykjavik music scene and is working closely with the lagaffe tales guys on building a new northern house empire. since his debut hes been working hard on creating a more varied vision of his unique lo slung hip hop approach to house music. with this ep he offers six new outings that have one thing in common, very warm and moody sounds ranging from disco through jazz and hip hop. were certain that he will continue to further cement his name in the coming years and were looking forward to working with him on plenty of exciting projects. opening with eyelids, felix delivers a rough, deep and dark house cut with broken beats, warped piano loops and twisted sampling throughout. classy has a smoky jazz feeling, kept tight with clever beat programming while evolving around a catchy sax motif. our personal fav is the title track, in general, a stunning broken beat house jam, smooth and loose, with swirling keys and a funk flavoured bass. the b-side begins with midwinter, a dance floor gem on a straight up junket. its deep, forward moving and bass driven, much like his track feels like that featured on our deep love compilation in 2016. yet another highlight for us is apollo, theres not many records out there that sound quite like this, thoroughly warped and contorted, depraved strings and a hypnotising rhodes arc and strain until the bass drops and it all falls in place psychedelic beauty! he closes with mine, a dope lo fi hip hop beat that casually wraps our ears, an ice cold soul infused piece.

alexander palmestal was fifty procent of the electro duo pistol disco - a band that during the 00�s bustled around in the music scene of gothenburg and became known for having a certain sound and for their unpredictable and often magical live shows. the later incarnation of the band took a step away from the german 70�s influences to move towards a more club friendly universe. in 2015 the band released the 7inch goo/pool on hoga nord rekords which was their last release and now palmestal, under the name mythologen, make a release on hoga nord rekords.

power station continue to present their penchant for dark dance club sounds as the third edition of the kris baha-led imprint looks to another melbourne local by way of lochlan denholm aka disrute. after surfacing on the labels sampler debut just last year, reflexivity sees lochlan a chance to explore his style of twisted, pulsing homage to new wave and motorik throb. anvil landing wastes no time laying down intentions. sparse friendly drums are met with a modulating bass line and lazy arpeggio, an incessant sonar pulses and drum rolls intensify. snorkel continues the mid-tempo intensity, distressed kick counterpoint with aggressive stabs that rise and swirl before reaching a powerful climax, a track reminiscent of the 2000 s turbo-charged italo disco edits. on the flip we see japanese supergroup mascaras, made up of chida and 5ive (cos/mes) tackle unreleased kabutops. vocal fans of disrute s kabu track from the label sampler, here mascaras provide a fast paced acid-heavy reinterpretation, intense yet restrained with erratic drum trickery taking disrute to techno territory. finally, disrute reflects with title track reflexivity. digital arpeggios and a brooding one note bass work around curt cress style harmonic drums, a low slung piece for the early evening. hand drawn picture sleeve and label, a complete package that signals exciting times for power station ahead.

sdx is the producer alias of our resident dj beni, who delivered finest detroit techno for our catalogue number 008. catalogue number 009 comes with special remixes by legend rolando, known from labels like ostgut ton, underground resistance or deslin & max durante, known from sonig groove & diffuse reality. the original track the day she asks for forgiveness is a slowly building percussive 808 banger, built around a short vocal sample. rolando comes with a special minimalistic dj tool track. we are sure this remix will find place in lots of dj sets. max durante comes with a straight forward techno remix in his best own style. the third and last track of the record is a special bonus breakbeat track made by sdx himself. clitchy sounds and a special mood will bring you directly into another dimension. be prepared

coling strange lands on lies.. going to hit hard, this one..tip! collin strange has a long and storied history in the new york city underground music scene of the nineties. from owning a record shop in the east village, to working at distributers, to playing in bands of all sorts, to producing music alone, strange was around at one of the most vibrant (and transitional) times in the l.e.s., just on the cusp of guliani s culture crackdown which choked the life out of the city, forcing many to leave. currently located in seattle, strange has picked up where he left off years ago plugging in the gear and churning out blistering acid cuts with a very d.i.y. edge that brings to mind drop bass network, unit moebius, or free party french acid of old. coming full circle these tracks are completely at home on l.i.e.s. and will undoubtedly thrash any soundsystem in sight. play at maximum volume for total disruption

adam port and jimpster have had a special kind of �virtual� relationship the last few years with a mutual respect for each others productions and output of their respective labels. keinemusik, which adam runs alongside rampa, &me and reznik, has grown into one of the most consistent and hottest out there right now with every release creating a big splash and bringing magic to so many dancefloors around the world. adam recently remixed jimpster�s eel pie island to devastating effect bringing his own deep, late night atmospherics to the original and creating one of 2016�s underground hits in the process. so now we�re very pleased to welcome adam port (alongside legendary uk artists stereo mc�s) for a full release on freerange in the form of changes. opening the release we have adam�s own remix which sets the tone with a subtle and gently building groove providing the perfect backdrop for the stereo mc�s esoteric vocal. this lesson in restraint shows why adam�s productions work so well on big systems, letting all the focus shine firmly on the vocal creating an intense atmosphere with not a single huge breakdown in sight! next up we have the original of changes which takes a more electro approach with a simple bassline and crisp hats and once again allowing the vocal space to take centre stage for a deep and memorable track with a message. finally we have a remix from our own jimpster opts to push in a completely different direction. shuffling up the groove and laying down a repeating rhodes riff we�re treated to an altogether more soulful and less stark version making the perfect compliment to the the package. this one makes us think of his remix of osunlade�s momma�s groove which is no bad thing we feel! enjoy!
